The ICGEB invites applications for the post of Technician
POST TITLE: Technician
DUTY STATION: Trieste, Italy
DATE REQUIRED: 1 January 2026 (tentative)
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed term appointment
DURATION: Initial period of three months, with possibility of one-year further extensions subject to satisfactory performance.
LEVEL: GS-1 (UN Salary Scales)
DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Head, Safety & Technical Services, the incumbent will be required to perform the following duties:
• Maintenance of air handling systems, both aeraulic and hydronic;
• Maintenance of various laboratory and plant equipment and instruments;
• Repair of electrical and electronic parts of various instruments;
• Experience with operation of machines such as milling, lathe and welding machines, etc;
• Ability to be on call, i.e., inspect instruments on weekends and holidays, and availability for emergency calls after working hours (this service is additional to the 40-hour work week);
• Procurement of technical materials;
• Assistance for events organized by ICGEB off-site;
• Performance of other work-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Technical High School Diploma. Previous experience as one of the following is required: maintenance technician for companies that manage air handing and air conditioning systems, plumber, electrician, expert in managing SIEMENS systems, carpenter. Class B driving license. Forklift license is an added advantage.
COMPETENCIES: Proactive approach, problem-solving and good interpersonal skills, motivation to work in a team in a multicultural environment.
LANGUAGES: English and Italian are essential.
